This pre-registered study aimed to determine whether the COVID-19 pandemic affected the prevalence, incidence and concentration of personal victimisation in Mexico, and to examine if the impact of the pandemic on victimisation was correlated with personal characteristics.
This peer-reviewed study showed that the incidence of most crime types in Mexico City decreased during the COVID-19 pandemic. Furthermore, it also showed that some of the decreases were associated with the reduction of crime opportunities related to the disruption of routine activities.
This talk presented the findings of a study on the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on crime in Mexico City, and was followed by a Q&A on trends and issues in public security in Mexico in 2021.
